Instagram Story Viewer

Instagram Stories vanish after 24 hours. IGScope's Story Viewer lets you browse active public stories for a username, preview them in a focused modal, and understand how story visibility and viewer ordering work.

What is the Instagram Story Viewer?

Instagram Stories are photo or video posts that disappear 24 hours after they are shared. They appear at the top of the Instagram app and are often used for quick updates, polls, links, and behind-the-scenes content.

IGScope's Story Viewer lets you search a public username and preview currently active stories. Because we do not sign you into Instagram, your view is not added to the story owner's viewer list.

This only works for public accounts. Private stories are restricted to approved followers, and expired stories are no longer available through any viewer.

How it works

Three simple visual steps to get started.

1

Type the username

Enter the public Instagram username whose stories you want to see.

2

Open the Stories tab

On the profile result page, click the Stories tab to list active stories.

3

Tap to watch

Click any story card to open it in the modal viewer.

Step-by-step tutorial

  1. 1

Go to the Story Viewer tool

Open /instagram-story-viewer. The search bar is the same one used across all IGScope tools.

  2. 2

    Enter a public username

Type the exact username or paste an Instagram profile URL. The parser extracts the username automatically.

  3. 3

    Load the profile summary

Press Search to load the public profile. If the account is private or has no active stories, the Stories tab will say so.

  4. 4

    Switch to the Stories tab

On the result page, tap or click the Stories tab. Active stories appear as cards with timestamps and preview thumbnails.

  5. 5

    Open a story

Click a card to view it in a full-screen modal. You can navigate if there are multiple active stories for that account.

How long do Instagram stories last?

Stories are temporary by design. Each story is visible for 24 hours after it is posted, unless the owner deletes it earlier. After that window, the story disappears from public feeds and from the owner's story tray.

If the owner saves a story to a highlight, it becomes a permanent collection on the profile. Highlights are covered by the Instagram Highlight Viewer tool.

Story viewer order and visibility

Inside the Instagram app, the owner can see a list of accounts that viewed the story. Instagram orders that list using signals such as past interactions, messages, and profile visits. It is not a simple chronological list.

IGScope fetches public stories by username and displays them outside of an Instagram session. Because no Instagram account is used, your view is not included in the owner's viewer list.

Can someone see that I watched their story?

When you watch a story while logged into Instagram, the owner can see your username in the viewer list. With IGScope, you are not logged in, so the view is not tied to an Instagram account.

This applies to public stories only. Private stories cannot be accessed by IGScope, and expired stories cannot be recovered once the 24-hour window closes.

What this tool can and cannot do

You can

  • View currently active public stories
  • See timestamps and engagement counts when available
  • Switch between multiple stories in a modal
  • Use the Story Downloader to save public stories

You cannot

  • View expired stories or deleted stories
  • View stories from private accounts
  • Guarantee that every story will be available
  • Bypass Instagram blocks, age gates, or regional restrictions

Troubleshooting

  • No stories appear

The account may have no active stories, the stories may have expired, or the account may be private. Try again later or check a different public account.

  • Story will not play

Video stories may be blocked by some mobile browsers or strict content blockers. Try refreshing or using a desktop browser.

  • Video has no sound

Many browsers mute autoplaying media by default. Look for the unmute button inside the video player and check your device volume.

  • Story is only a still image

Not all stories are videos. Some accounts post photo stories, which display as a static image.

Why use IGScope for stories?

  • Preview public stories without logging into Instagram
  • No viewer attribution from an Instagram session
  • Focused modal player with navigation support
  • Works while stories are still active, before they expire

Frequently asked questions

Can the account owner see I watched their story?

IGScope does not use your Instagram session, so the view is not linked to your account. This applies to public stories accessed through the tool.

Do stories include audio?

Video stories usually include audio. Your browser may mute it by default, so click the unmute control if you want sound.

What if no stories appear?

Either the user has no active stories, the account is private, or the content has expired. Only stories that are still live and public are shown.

Can I watch stories after 24 hours?

No. Once the 24-hour window closes, the story is no longer available as a public story. If it was saved to a highlight, use the Highlight Viewer instead.

Is the Story Viewer free?

Yes. You can search for public usernames and view active stories without payment.

Do I need an app?

No. IGScope works in any modern browser.

Can I download stories?

Yes. Use the Instagram Story Downloader for public stories while they are active.
