Instagram Story Downloader
Stories are temporary, but sometimes you want to keep a public story for personal reference. IGScope's Story Downloader lets you save currently active public stories from a username while they are still live.
- No login required
- Public only
- Privacy-conscious
- Free to use
What is the Instagram Story Downloader?
Instagram Stories disappear after 24 hours unless the owner saves them as a highlight. The Story Downloader lets you capture the underlying image or video of a currently active public story before that window closes.
To use it, search for a public username with active stories, open the Stories tab, and click Download on the story you want. The file is saved to your device for personal offline use.
This tool is for public stories only. Private stories, expired stories, and stories that have been deleted by the owner cannot be downloaded.
How it works
Three simple visual steps to get started.
Enter the username
Type a public account that currently has active stories.
Open the Stories tab
Click Stories on the result page to see active story cards.
Download the story
Click a card to preview, then press Download to save the media.
Step-by-step tutorial
- 1
Open the Story Downloader
Navigate to /instagram-story-downloader. The search bar is the same one used by other IGScope tools.
- 2
Search for the account
Enter a public username and press Search. The account must have at least one active story to download.
- 3
Open the Stories tab
On the result page, click the Stories tab. Active stories appear as cards ordered by recency.
- 4
Preview the story
Click a story card to view it in the modal player. Confirm it is the story you want to save.
- 5
Press Download
Click the Download button. The browser will save the image or video file. On mobile, you may need to hold the file and choose Save.
What can you download?
You can download the underlying media of a currently active public story. This is usually a JPG for photo stories or an MP4 for video stories. Stickers, polls, and interactive elements may be baked into the image or video, but they may not be interactive in the downloaded file.
Responsible use
Downloaded stories belong to the original creator. Keep them for personal reference and do not repost, sell, or redistribute them without permission. IGScope is designed for lawful, privacy-respecting personal use.
Stories expire, so act quickly
A story is only downloadable while it is active. Once the 24-hour window closes, the story is gone from public feeds and cannot be retrieved. If the owner saved it to a highlight, you can still view it through the Highlight Viewer, but the Story Downloader is meant for active stories.
What this tool can and cannot do
You can
- Download active public photo stories
- Download active public video stories
- Save files for personal offline use
- Preview stories before downloading
You cannot
- Download expired or deleted stories
- Download stories from private accounts
- Download archived stories belonging to the owner
- Remove watermarks or bypass content protections
Troubleshooting
Download failed
The story may have expired, the account may have become private, or the network request may have timed out. Try again before the 24-hour window closes.
File won't save on mobile
Mobile browsers sometimes block direct downloads. Long-press the media or use the share sheet to save the file to your camera roll.
Downloaded story has no sound
If the original story was a photo, there is no audio. If it was a video, the downloaded file usually includes audio; check your device volume and media player.
Story disappeared before download
Stories expire after 24 hours. If the owner deleted it early, it is no longer available for download.
Why use IGScope for story downloads?
- Save public stories before the 24-hour timer expires
- Preview stories before deciding to download
- No Instagram login or third-party app installation
- Built-in usage limits to keep the service reliable
Frequently asked questions
Can I download archived stories?
Only active public stories are accessible. Archived stories belong to the account owner and are not exposed publicly.
Do downloaded stories keep stickers and polls?
Interactive elements may not be preserved in a usable form; the download contains the underlying image or video as it was shared.
Is the download tied to my Instagram account?
No. IGScope does not use your Instagram account. The download request is made through IGScope's servers, not from your personal profile.
Can I download stories from private accounts?
No. Private stories are only visible to approved followers. IGScope cannot bypass this restriction.
What file format are downloaded stories?
Photo stories are usually JPG and video stories are usually MP4. The exact format depends on the source media.
How many stories can I download?
Reasonable personal use is allowed. The service applies per-session and per-IP limits to prevent abuse and control costs.
